Why brand matters (and when it does not)
Most failures are the same across brands: a worn heating element, a clogged pump, a bad door switch, a frozen drain. The brand changes three things:
- Error codes. Each maker uses different codes. We read them and test the part, not guess from the code alone.
- Parts. Some brands share parts across models. Others use proprietary boards that cost more and take longer.
- Design weak points. Certain models have known habits, such as ice buildup in a specific ice maker or a door lock that wears early. Experience with these saves a second visit.
If you are still under warranty
Check the manufacturer warranty before paying for a repair. Many appliances carry one year of coverage, and some parts, such as sealed systems or motors, carry longer coverage. If the failure is covered, the manufacturer’s service is likely the better choice. If the warranty ended, or the manufacturer cannot visit soon, we step in. Third party extended warranties vary, so check what your plan allows.
